The Winchendon Historical Society and Murdock-Whitney House Museum is dedicated to the preservation, conservation of it's collection and interpretation of it's archival documents, photographs and other artifacts relevant to the history of Winchendon. Visitors will enjoy a guided tour of the 22 room mansion that had been the home of the Murdock-Whitney family for five generations. The original house was built by Elisha Murdock. The Massachusetts Historical Commission indicates the original house may have been constructed as early as the 1820's. The dwelling has been moved back on it's lot and substantially remodeled. In 1901 the Victorian and Colonial alterations were completed by Elisha Murdock's daughter, Sophia Morse Whitney. Learn More.
